Engineering Manager

The Engineering Manager will play a critical role in driving the growth of OneTouch Health across the UK’s adult and children’s social care markets. This role balances agile execution, technical quality, test automation, and continuous improvement, while partnering closely with Product, QA, and SRE teams to deliver secure, scalable healthcare software.

Role Overview:

The Engineering Manager role at OneTouch Health is accountable for delivering excellence, team performance, and engineering discipline across one or more product domains within the OneTouch care platform.

This is a hands-on people and delivery leadership role, not a pure architecture or IC position. The role balances agile execution, technical quality, test automation, and continuous improvement, while partnering closely with Product, QA, and SRE teams to deliver secure, scalable healthcare software.

Key Responsibilities:

Engineering Leadership & Delivery

  • Lead and develop a cross-functional squad of backend (PHP), frontend (React), and QA engineers.
  • Own delivery outcomes: predictable sprint execution, quality releases, and meeting roadmap commitments.
  • Translate product requirements into well-planned, estimable engineering work with clear acceptance criteria.
  • Run effective Agile ceremonies (planning, stand-ups, refinement, retrospectives) with a focus on outcomes, not theatre.
  • Actively manage dependencies across teams, especially in a multi-product environment.

Technical & Quality Oversight

  • Provide day-to-day technical leadership across PHP (Laravel), React (modern component architecture, state management) and REST / API-first architectures
  • Ensure automated testing is first-class, including Unit and integration testing, End-to-end test automation and Regression and release confidence in a regulated environment
  • Champion engineering best practices: code reviews, CI/CD discipline, trunk-based development, and technical debt management.
  • Partner with Platform / SRE teams to ensure reliability, observability, and production readiness.

People Management & Coaching

  • Line-manage engineers with a strong focus on performance management and regular feedback, career development and progression and capability uplift in testing, Agile maturity, and engineering fundamentals
  • Foster a culture of accountability, psychological safety, and continuous improvement.
  • Identify and address skills gaps through coaching, hiring input, and mentoring.

Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Work closely with Product Managers / Product Owners to ensure balanced trade-offs between speed, quality, and sustainability.
  • Collaborate with QA, Security, and Compliance stakeholders to support healthcare regulatory expectations.
  • Provide clear, honest delivery reporting to senior engineering and product leadership.

Required Experience:

  • 10+ years’ experience in software engineering, with 5+ years in an Engineering Manager or Team Lead role
  • Proven experience embedding test automation within product teams
  • Strong understanding of Agile delivery (Scrum)
  • Experience delivering SaaS products with multiple releases per year
  • Ability to lead teams through change, scaling, or integration scenarios
  • Background in design-led, high-growth SaaS businesses.
  • Passion for modern development standards and continuous improvement.
